Chapter Service & Philanthropy
While every Theta has a heart for her sisters, we also have a heart for our community. In 1989, Kappa Alpha Theta joined CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates, to help positively impact the lives of foster children in the South Plains/Lubbock area. As Lubbock County has the highest rate of child abuse and neglect per capita, Tech Theta takes great pride in having the opportunity to serve our neighbors and help the children in our immediate area.
Kappa Alpha Theta is also involved in two other service organizations: the Friendship Fund and the Theta Foundation. While both of these organizations are based on the idea of Thetas-helping-Thetas, they serve very different and individual purposes. The Friendship Fund provides financial support to sisters enduring devastating circumstances through the nomination by two other sisters, who remain anonymous.
The Theta Foundation also provides financial support. but on a more scholastic level. This foundation helps Theta sisters who are pursuing an academic goal, and gives them the support they need to reach their full potential. Other service events include a variety of fundraisers, walks benefitting organizations like Raiders against Drunk Driving and the MayDay 5K, all of which hold a place in each of our hearts. Tech Theta harbors a passion for helping those closest to us, whether that may be in our sisterhood or in our community.
